FINAL DRIVE
SLOTTED NUT TOOL BODY ALL AIRHEADS 1955-1995 R66 R51/2 R51/3
R67 R68 but not R26 R27 R100GS
This tool is used to remove the nut with the four slots that
holds the oil seal and the pinion gear in place in the final
drive. You will need a 1 5/8” (41mm) socket wrench to use with
this tool, the same size socket used on the bolt that holds the
flywheel onto the crankshaft on the /2. Instructions are
included for strapping the final drive to the wheel so you can
remove the pinion nut, or you can get a pinion gear holder
below.
You will also need a pin set. |

FINAL DRIVE
PINION GEAR HOLDER 1955-1995 TWINS
Used to keep the pinion gear from rotating while unscrewing the
pinion nut. The instructions that come with the FINAL DRIVE
SLOTTED NUT TOOL describe a way of strapping the final drive to
the wheel to achieve the same thing, but some people said that
was too Mickey Mouse, sigh, so here is the proper tool. Replaces
Matra 256, 507 and BMW 33 1 650. |

DRIVE
SHAFT COUPLING PULLER 1955-1980
This removes the piece that couples the drive shaft to the final
drive so that you can remove the drive shaft from the swingarm.
Replaces Matra 508 and 299a as well as BMW 26 1 600 and 26 1
650. Having access to a vise will be helpful. |

SHAFT UNIVERSAL JOINT TORQUE WRENCH ADAPTER
BMW specifies a torque figure for the twelve sided bolts that
hold the drive shaft universal joint onto the output flange of
the transmission, but a conventional torque wrenches won't fit
in the confined space so I've made an adapter. Bikes from 1970
came stock with the 12 sided bolts, /2 used an Allen type bolt
but those can be replaced with the easier to tighten 12 sided
ones. |

DRIVE SHAFT
COMPRESSOR 1980-
Used to compress the spring on the rubber band drive shafts. BMW
started to use them about September of 1980. Replaces BMW tool
number 26 1 700. The Clymer shop manual mistakenly calls this
33 17 350. |
